Comet and Asteroid Observation

Many long-term missions that use Photonis products, including Cassini and Galileo, have included the observation of comets or asteroids on the fly-by to the primary destination. Missions aimed at solar observation also note the discovery of many new, small comets before they are consumed by the heat of our sun. However, Photonis was also included on missions specifically designed to investigate comets and asteroids, providing data on their composition and density, including Haley’s Comet. Most recently, the Rosetta mission investigated the Comet 67P/Churyumov – Gerasimenko before the mission ended in 2016.

Some of the key missions Photonis has manufactured products for include:
GIOTTO, Rosetta
